Not everyone one will know what you are going on about when you start talking about desiccant. Basically a desiccant is generally a small packet of silica gel, although other substances can be used, which is used as a moisture absorber to keep products and produce dry. Most commonly used with packaging and the transportation stages desiccants are a vital part of keeping goods in top condition so they arrive to the consumer in the same condition they left the factory.

You might not of heard about desiccants before but you will recognise the silica gel sachets previously. You often find these silica gel packs in shoe boxes or some electrical items that are at particular risk of moisture damage. What often occurs though is that we chuck this useful little item out nearly the instant that we get our product. Generally this is because we cannot think of a clear use for this type of item.

Well there are many uses for desiccant packs, which can be used around you home to great effect. The first step is to look around your home and think of areas that suffer with excess moisture. Thinking about it you will probably be aware that over the winter there is a strong chance that the widows in your house will build up condensation. The formation of condensation is caused when the warm air of the interior comes into contact with the glass which has been chilled by the outside temperature meaning that water in the air will form as condensation on the windows. If you want to avoid condensation forming on your windows this winter use a few desiccant packs to absorb the excess moisture.

Also note that damp spaces in your house will have a much higher chance of producing bacteria, mold and fungi. By using desiccant packs you will be able to eliminate areas of damp forming and therefore avoid the threat of bacteria growing altogether.
