When you decorate your home, you have to give serious consideration to your carpets. Carpets can not only make a room look great, but they give the room a nice soft feeling when you walk around. There are several important factors you should know about when buying a carpet, and we’ll be looking at some of these here.

When choosing a carpet, one of the first decisions you have to make is whether to get tufted or woven construction. The majority of carpets you’ll see for sale today are tufted, made of machine punched yarns that are held together by adhesive. Woven carpets, which are quite a bit more expensive, are made on a loom, more in the manner of traditional, handmade carpets of old. Woven carpets, though, are made to last, and you can easily keep one in good condition for ten or twenty years. Tufted carpets, on the other hand, usually have to be replaced in about five years. Tufted or woven is only one factor in your choice of carpet, as you still have to decide on the fiber, color and style.

When it comes to getting your carpet, you also have to choose between the wall to wall variety or a less permanent area rug. While wall to wall carpeting has a neat and permanent look, if your room has an unusual shape an area rug might make more sense. They also give you more flexibility in case you want to move or replace it. Area rugs are also something to consider if you like antique or Oriental rugs, which you can buy in specialty stores or at auctions. On the other hand, if you simply want a carpet that will fill the entire room and you know you want to use it for a long time, then wall to wall is probably more convenient.

You have to carefully choose the color of your carpet, which will make a big difference in how your room looks. When you look at carpets in a store, keep in mind that the color may look a little different when you take it home. Carpets tend to look a little darker in the showroom. You want your carpet to be a good match to the rest of your house, including the interior paint and furnishings. When looking at carpets, then, you have to make sure it will look as good in your room as it does in the store. If you are unsure about color, get some small samples of carpet to take home and put them on the floor to get an idea of how it will look.

Carpets are one of the most dominant items in a room, so make your choice carefully. You have to think about your budget, the size and color and the type of fabric you want. When looking at carpets, keep the above tips in mind and make sure you get one that you’ll be happy with for a long time.
