Scrapbooking can be a fun hobby to start for anyone who loves taking pictures and showing them to others. It’s so easy to do that even a beginner can catch on quickly. If scrapbooking intimidates you because you’ve seen some elaborate creations, just follow some of these beginner tips to hone your skills into a bona fide scrapbooking pro.

Matting. Matte can truly add a touch, and make your photos stand out. Double matting is even more effective to making a picture stand out. You should use light colors of matte first, and matte the picture in contrasting colors last. If you select a color in the photo for your contrasting-colored matte, you will really allow the picture to stand out.

Use pre-made designed pages. Until you are ready to design your own pages, hobby stores offer a selection of pre-made scrapbooking pages you can choose from. With these pages already ready for use, all you have to do is to attach photos and other small items you would like to add. Stickers or content, the choice of what to add is yours.

Rubber stamping. You can use rubber stamps to add a special touch to your themed pages. Take a day at the zoo and bring more life to the scrapbook page by rubber stamping zoo animals periodically throughout the page.

Don’t forget the words. No scrapbooking page can be complete without some text scattered here and there on the themed page. You can use your own handwriting to write what you want or print something off of the computer and cut it out to place on your scrapbook page. Words can help keep the memory of that special day alive.

Something old, something new, something special. A small physical object from your special day can do miracles when it comes to bringing back memories. In something like a wedding scrapbook, for example, you would do well by adding a flower from the bouquet or even a napkin from the reception.

Get others involved. Ask your children or friends to help design their own pages. This may very well be the best “together project” for a rainy day.

You can take care of cutting and pasting for younger children, but allow them to choose colors and attach stickers. They can go as far as creating and adding their own artwork to the page to make it really special.

Stencils can be very helpful. If you are not an artist, don’t despair; you can still add a few graphics by using stencils. There are countless stencils to choose from.

Few things are easier than scrapbooking. After you become a little more comfortable as a beginner, it will be lots of fun to experiment with new creative ideas.
